So much of learning is visual: reading, the whiteboard, tablets and books. Yet many kids with vision problems do not know they see differently, so they never complain.
Screening vs. exam
A school vision screening checks whether a child can read letters across the room. It does not check focusing up close, how the eyes work together, or eye health. A comprehensive exam does.
Signs to watch for
- Squinting, head tilting or covering one eye
- Holding books very close
- Losing their place while reading
- Headaches after school or homework
- Avoiding reading or close work
When to schedule
Dr. Larson sees children as young as 2, ideally from age 4. Plan an exam before kindergarten or first grade, then regularly as your child grows. Summer and early fall are popular times, so it helps to book ahead.
Eye See Eye and Facial Wellness welcomes families from Green Bay, Ashwaubenon, De Pere, Howard and Allouez.
